➻❥ "If I am to be her enemy, I want it to be because she loathes herself for wanting me.”

This book is set in Ilya, where the plague courteously gifted several with various different powers; these people were known as the extraordinaries, the Elites. However not all were lucky enough to possess them leaving many injured, sick, barely surviving, or worse, ordinary. The king declared that Ilya must banish all ordinaries to protect and preserve the Elite society. To survive as an ordinary was a dangerous game, however with the skills of thieving, fighting, and psychic abilities that masks as an elite power, in reality it's truly just being hyper observant and cunning, taught by her father, Paedyn Gray manages to stay alive…until a certain prince doom havoc. When Paedyn unknowingly saves the prince, she is hurled into the Purging Trials. A competition to see contestants endure and adapt to different challenges by showcasing elite powers - the one thing Paedyn lacks.

˚. ✦ Paedyn Gray, a girl that never failed to leave me in complete awe. Her wittiness, charisma, boldness and confidence made me love her right off the bat. She suffered a lot as an ordinary, living in the slums at a young age with no family other than her best friend, sleeping on cobblestones, thieving to survive, whipped by guards (imperials), and being thrown into a dangerous competition not meant for her. Yet she never backed down and held her head high, optimistic, fierce and strong all the way and that is one of the things I absolutely admire and respect, she is a force, a vision, she’s the future. Not to mention her flirtations and daring persona got not one but both princes wrapped around her finger making the novel even more entertaining and interesting.

⊹ ࣪ ˖"The strongest weapon a woman has at her disposal is that she is often underestimated, and I wield that all the time.” ⊹ ࣪ ˖

˚. ✦ Kai Azer, prince of Ilya and the future enforcer, who was gifted with the ability to use any power at his disposal. Ever since he was little, he was trained to hunt, torture and kill so he can serve his country later on. He went through cruel, merciless and ruthless training held by the king (his father), injuring himself many times in order to learn how to use all the powers and endure the worst. As the future enforcer he has become rather familiar to death molding him as a person that hides behind many masks. I'm done being a civilized reviewer, can I fangirl now? THIS MAN. he had me bowing down, crying, squealing, on my knees, completely enthralled by his words and his overall presence. I'm not even joking he entered the book with that black button-down shirt shit, and I died on the spot. And the number of times I closed my pdf because the man was making me a little TOO giddy. I swear an earthquake could take place and i wouldn't know because I'm that paralyzed and hypnotized by him. I need a kai azer in my life, it's not even funny.

⊹ ࣪ ˖"why did i ever think i could have her, ever think she would have me? because beasts don't get the beauty." ⊹ ࣪ ˖

˚. ✦ Kaipae, the tension, the banter, the wittiness, the slow burn, the playfulness yet the lingering danger, the “this is completely wrong but i can't help myself”, the “i will put a dagger to your throat in a heartbeat”, when ice meets fire and something ignites, a forbidden relationship that you can lose yourself in. They are a mood and a beauty alone, but together? They are INVINCIBLE, A FORCE. They are not an enemies to lovers type of relationship but they’re unmatched banter and flirting is so satisfactory I don't even know if you'd give a damn. They were literally all my favorite tropes put together. I mean my hands were literally itching to push pae away and take kai for myself but unfortunately for me, she had to be a little too perfect for him. There were so MANY SCENES where I was very obviously blushing and giggling and screaming in my pillow, and crying to my irl bsf about this book even though we were due for an exam in 5 mins. I was high over kai they’re relationship. It was truly alarming. Someone pls book me a doctor's appointment.

⊹ ࣪ ˖ “And I’ll save your life again and again, aimlessly hoping you will allow me to stay in it.” ⊹ ࣪ ˖

˚. ✦ Rating, I will be honest, there were many flaws in this book. I haven't read hunger games yet but i can confirm to you that it replicates red queen quite a bit. The book is like every other one, nothing special but tropes that allure you. It also claims to be a fantasy book though I'd call it a romance majority of the time. Yes, there was a world but there was barely any world building, it would have been nice to see a lot more of that instead of just romance. and i couldn't care less about the other characters other than Adena. my girl you forever have my heart and soul. And kitt by the end of it. So why the 5 stars? An impulsive move made purely on enjoyment. I loved the romance, however cliche it is, and I was ready to rate it a 4 until the last chapter. That ending burned me and it won my heart.

⊹ ࣪ ˖ “Mark my words, prince, I will be your undoing.” “Oh, darling, I look forward to it.” ⊹ ࣪ ˖

˚. ✦ Writing & Pace, It was uncomplicated yet held so much emotion in them. There were so many pretty quotes, so many scenes that made me scream out loud and made me surrender as a whole. It made me feel so much, every hit, every laugh, every smile, every stab. It also had a fast-paced writing style that keeps you hooked because of how addicting it is.

⊹ ࣪ ˖ but i'm never sober around you, pae. never not drunk on every detail that is you." ⊹ ࣪ ˖
